Institutional Context and Project Scope

Tanta University, one of Egypt’s major educational institutions with approximately 30,000 students and 2,000 faculty members, operates a sprawling 48-hectare campus in northern Egypt. The campus includes academic buildings, research facilities, residential dormitories, administrative offices, student centers, sports facilities, and extensive open areas. The university’s existing lighting infrastructure consisted of aging HPS systems installed in the 1980s and 1990s, increasingly unreliable and expensive to maintain.

The university’s administration established comprehensive campus improvement objectives including infrastructure modernization, enhanced student security, improved nighttime learning environments, and operational cost reduction. Comprehensive campus lighting modernization became a priority initiative aligning with these objectives.
